Dorothy
Nicks
Around the office folks like to say, "Dorothy,
you’re not in Kansas anymore."
And it’s true—Dorothy Nicks has
come from Kansas to serve as office manager in the dental office.
Although much of the stuff of her life is still in Kansas—like
her three cats and her boat—Dorothy herself is settled in
Arlington and is already putting her impressive organizational
and people skills to work—skills that were developed and
enhanced in her career in financial services.
Dorothy loves to travel. "Anyplace warm
where there’s a sunny beach", makes her happy. And
she likes to read; fiction is her first choice.
Red is Dorothy’s color. It’s a strong
color, she states.

| Sandra
Farrington
At the helm of the big front desk in the dental office, Sandra
Farrington operates Command Central. She has been the mainstay
since 1975, just a year and a half after Dr. Coppe opened
the practice. Sandy does point out that there was a brief
time, shortly after the birth of one of her children, when
she worked in the office of a general surgeon.
“The patients were all elderly and
they had all received sad diagnoses; and then I had to ask
them to pay the bill.”
She uses this depressing example as a contrast
to the bright atmosphere of the pediatric dentist.
“The kids come through the door and
instantly make the office brighter. I love their innocence.
I love to joke with them.”
The anchor of the office is the anchor of
her family as well. Several years ago, in quest for a higher
quality of life, Sandra sold her house in Massachusetts and
bought a big old house in New Hampshire that she shares with
children, grandchildren and her mother. Four generations in
one house that is decorated in historical red, Sandy’s
favorite color. It is busy—it can be noisy—but
the dream of a better quality of life has been more than realized.
Sandy claims that the good company of her
co-workers and the enjoyment of what she does keeps her eager
to come to work.
And what would make her work easier?
“If I had a couple more hands,”
she says with a characteristic laugh.
