When Carol calls you to verify an appointment or help with
an insurance form, she could be calling you from Colorado.
After working for Dr. Coppe for twenty-eight years, Carol
and her husband Joe found their plans for eventual retirement
were fast-forwarded.
“We’d planned to retire in Colorado—eventually,”
Carol says, “because that’s where our son Erik
lives with his family.” But when Erik, a major in the
Army, went to Iraq for his second tour of duty, Carol and
Joe knew they needed to be near their grandchildren—three
little girls.
Dr. Coppe was very positive about the shift.
He encouraged Carol to move west and to continue to work from
there. Once a month she returns to Massachusetts for one week
to visit her mother, and during this week, you’ll find
Carol in the office.
“We have all the modern conveniences
in this office,” she claims. “High speed access,
the latest software, and the people are great.”
“The flexible working and living arrangement
has given me a wonderful chance to bond with my mother,”
Carol says, but she admits she misses her home where her daughter
Jenna is currently living with her parents while she finishes
the dissertation for her Ph.D.; Jenna is a gourmet cook and
Carol and Joe reap the benefits.
Green is Carol’s favorite color—it’s
the color of nature, she says. Asked if she had advice for
parents, she would say this: “’No’ isn’t
necessarily a bad word.”
